Week 2

In all honesty, I feel as though week two was not as successful as week one, for me. I am a bit frustrated with the amount of gesture drawings we have been doing and I would really enjoy doing some more in depth work. My contour line drawing of the shell, however, I feel was too long to spend on a simple drawing. I need to find a happy medium.
On a good note, I started my skeleton today, and it is SO much harder than I was expecting! I have finished 5 muscles and it has taken me at least 3 hours! Hopefully, with time it will become easier and therefore, less time consuming. I must admit, if I were to spend this much time on a project, I don't mind that it is on the human body. It is SO interesting! I find myself wanting to know more about how our bodies work and why it works that way.

We are truly amazing structures.

My favorite project from Graphic Design II.

"Quixotic"
Adobe Illustrator CS3

one hour reflection

After the first week of drawing, I have to say that I am pretty impressed with myself! It has been a couple of years since I have attempted any sort of drawing, besides thumb nail sketches, and I wasn't sure what to expect.
I was nervous about having a live nude model to draw because I thought it would be awkward. But, to my surprise, it was very professional and I had no issues drawing the bare human form. Well, I should say that I had no problems drawing the female form, but not for the reasons one would assume. The woman knew exactly
what to do and it was easy to tell she was comfortable with her body.
The man that we had, however, seemed very tense and self-conscience. His actions made it difficult to really study his body while drawing because I felt like he was embarrassed to be the center of attention. I am sure that with time, he will become relaxed and it will be easier for him, as well as us.
The most difficult part of the class, so far, has been allowing myself to break an old habit of holding my pencil the same way I would write. After two or three weeks of practicing, I am sure I will get used to it and be a better artist for trying to change.

introduction

Well, what can I say? This blogger thing is all very new to me, so I will do my best to keep updated and take advantage of all the site has to offer.

I am a fourth year Graphic Design major at the University of Wisconsin Stout. When I graduate, hopefully in December of 2010, I want to work for a large company that focuses on corporate branding (logos and business cards/letterheads). The last drawing class I took was second semester of freshman year, other than that I have been only doing thumbnail sketches for my other major classes. My favorite programs are Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, which I spend most of my time working with. After completing the Life Drawing course, I hope to have a better understanding of the human form and its proportions. I am not sure exactly what this will do for my Graphic Design major, but growing up, human figures were always an interest for drawing.

Overall, I am looking forward to a successful semester!
